A bespoke residential apartment scheme on a former commercial plot adjacent to Birkenhead Park provides 46no. affordable dwellings, offering a mixture of 1bed and 2bed units in close proximity to Birkenhead town centre. This 100% affordable scheme was developed in partnership with Wirral Council and a local housing provider.
A hierarchy and rhythm has been introduced to the design of the apartment to break up the scale and mass of the building. The staggering of the building facing onto Conway Street adds a layer of depth and interest to the street scene and through the introduction of a mansard to the top floor the overall mass of the building has been reduced. Feature dormer/window surrounds and the introduction of a contrasting material palette also serve to add detail and break up the façade.
